Before and after a procedure
Here are some things you might like to know about what happens before and after a procedure.
Before a procedure
It is important that you contact our Cardiac Nurse, Claire, before your procedure.
Claire will review details of the procedure with you. For example, she will instruct you about when/if you should stop your medications, and if you are diabetic, what you will need to do about your insulin and other medications.
You should have nothing orally (no food, nothing to drink) for 6 hours prior to a procedure.
After a procedure
You will be discharged from hospital the morning following the procedure.
- You are not permitted to drive for at least 3 days.
- No heavy lifting for at least 1 week.
You will have a review appointment 4-6 weeks following the procedure.
If you have any questions during that time please contact Claire.
Calling for results
Patients can ring Claire for results or medication enquiries. Please ring only between the following hours as Claire is not available on any other day. She may need to return your call if she is busy with another patient or if she needs to discuss your results or medication with Dr Proimos before returning your call.
